Reviews

"This charming adaptation of Jerome K Jerome’s escapist comic classic captures a simple lost world just ahead of the modern era dawning Genuinely hilarious, superb comic acting from the three leads keeps the story exceptionally sparky."

Daily Telegraph

"A drawing room opens up to reveal the boat they travel in. Set Designer Sean Cavanagh’s attention to detail is brilliant"

Theatre and Arts Reviews

"Nostalgia, fun and a summer vibe that we all need right now!"

Fairy Powered Productions

"A show laden with wit, charm and deftness of touch. Jerome K Jerome’s novel was published in 1889 but this production by Joe Harmston shunts it forward 20 years so that we’re in that hedonistic, peaceful “Edwardian summer” when young men who didn’t, apparently, need to work for a living could simply don their striped jackets and go off on a carefree boating trip. But of course that freedom and innocence didn’t last. The world was hurtling towards 1914 after which nothing would ever be the same again. It's bitter sweet nostalgia imaginatively done."

Susan Elkin, Performing Pilchards

"A delightful gem, full of funny one-liners, great performances, laugh-out-loud comedy, and even a tiny little touch of audience interaction. Director Joe Harmston knows exactly what to do to appeal to the Mill’s target audience – and his production appeals to the audience with precision"

All That Dazzles

"Perfectly beautifully cast by director Joe Harmston and his casting director Kate Plantin, with exciting sets by Sean Cavanagh"

Aline Waites Reviews

“The setting of the story to just before the outbreak of World War One gave the ending a poignant feel, and a timely reminder never to take leisurely boat trips, or anything in life, for granted. A wholesome couple of hours of escapism”

Londontheatre1

“A wonderful show to relax and recharge batteries and to enjoy superb artistic endeavor and masterclass acting by Watkins, Rigby and Bradshaw. Witty, Whimsical Wonderfullness!”

Catherine Francoise, Mozart to Musicals

“This portrait of three friends teasing each other and bickering about their individual foibles rings totally true with a cleverly versatile set by Sean Cavanagh and outstanding performances from James Bradshaw, Sean Rigby and George Watkins. It proves to be a lovely respite from present realities.”

London Living Large

“Director Joe Harmston’s direction is subtle, detailed and affectionate; Sean Cavanagh's wonderfully inventive set maximizes this small apron stage perfectly and fully and Tom Lishman's sound design is just flawless. The production values are testament to the commitment to quality that runs through this place. The Mill at Sonning is a gem of a theatre”
